A Way Forward

To develop Christ- like leaders through holistic education for the transformation of the world is the Mission of Harris Memorial College. In line with its Mission, Harris Memorial College  through the Office of the Chaplain, initiated a forum discussing one of the pressing issue of the United Methodist Church; the report of the Commission on A Way Forward for the UMC. HMC’s college students, faculty and staff attended the Forum which took place on September 26, 2018 at J.L. Valencia Chapel, and led by Rev. Helen Manalac- Cunanan , one of the member of the Commission on a Way Forward.

The creation of the Commission on a Way Forward was proposed by the Council of Bishops, and was approved by the 2016 General Conference to do a complete examination and possible revision of every paragraph of the Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality and explore options that help to maintain and strengthen the unity of the church. The final report of the Commission on a Way Forward will be presented and decided upon by the delegates to the Special Session of the General Conference of The UMC in  St. Louis, Missouri on February 23-27, 2019. The General Conference is the top policy-making body of The United Methodist Church.
